DAD  Kurdish organization for the defence of human rights and public freedoms in Syria – DAD reports that the individual military judge in Qamishli held a new trial in relation to case no. 176 of 2010, on 4 February 2010 in relation to the following detainees :

Ahmed Abdullah Taj
Yassin Sheikhmous Mohammed
Mohammad Sharif Mohammad
Fuad Ahmed Mourad
Mohamed Mustafa

This hearing was for the defence to put its case, and after a written statement was read and filed, the judge adjourned the case to 2 March 2010 so that the papers could be verified and studied. These people have been charged with the offence of belonging to a secret and illegal organisation .

This hearing was attended by three of the defendants :
Yassin Sheikhmous Mohammed
Mohammad Sharif Mohammad
Fuad Ahmed Mourad
Also present was Mohamed Khalil, lawyer, and member of the Board of Trustees of the Kurdish organization for the defence of human rights and public freedoms in Syria – DAD .

We in the Kurdish organization for the defence of human rights and public freedoms in Syria – DAD strongly condemn the mock trials of these citizens, and we call for dismissal of the charges against them. We express our deep concern about the status of the judiciary in Syria, which is subordinate and has no neutrality. This is a furtherance of the Syrian Government’s violation of fundamental freedoms of the judiciary that have been guaranteed by international covenants on human rights, as signed and ratified by the Syrian Government .
We also call upon the Syrian authorities to release all prisoners of conscience, to close the files on all political prisoners, and to lift the State of Emergency and martial law. We call upon the Syrian Government to respect the laws, charters and international treaties on human rights signed by Syria, which condemn arbitrary detention, and which call for fair trials and the freedom to hold opinions and ideas without interference .
